Labor Day is more than just the unofficial end of summer.Â
It celebrates the American worker and the system of capitalism that rewards hard work, ingenuity, and perseverance.Â
From the factory floors of Detroit to the fields of California, labor has always been at the heart of our nation’s story.Â
When combined with freedom of enterprise, it has created the most prosperous society the world has ever known.

Labor and Capital Together Forge America’s Enduring Prosperity
In the late 19th century, America’s railroads, steel mills, and textile factories transformed not only the landscape but the lives of millions.Â
Immigrants arriving at Ellis Island carried little more than hope, yet they found a system that allowed their labor to create wealth.Â
They built roads, bridges, and cities, and in doing so, they built better lives for their families.Â
That is the promise of America: work hard, seize opportunity, and you can rise as far as your ambition will take you.
Capitalism gave labor its power.Â
Labor & Capital Together Build American Prosperity
Without free markets, labor is stifled. Look at societies where central planning dictated every detail of production.Â
Workers toiled, but their labor produced little more than shortages and misery. In America, by contrast, workers and entrepreneurs joined forces.Â
A factory worker making automobiles created value because a business owner had capital to build the plant, and together they produced something greater than either could alone.
Without capital, labor cannot grow into prosperity. And capital without labor produces nothing.Â
It is the harmony of the two that makes America’s system unique. That partnership built industries from oil to aviation to technology, each propelling higher standards of living.Â
Today, it is doing the same with artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and clean energy. Capitalism's genius is that it gives labor a stake in innovation and prosperity.
On Labor Day, I think about the dignity of work and the opportunities our system provides.Â
My grandparents came to this country with little. They found jobs, saved money, and over time, their children were able to build a life better than they had and climb higher on the economic ladder.Â

Both of my grandfathers arrived in America with little more than hope and found work in New York’s bustling garment district.
That story is not unique to my family.Â
It is the story of countless American families across generations. Each rung on the ladder of prosperity is built by labor and lifted by capitalism.
American Prosperity stands for this truth.Â
We believe in honoring workers not only with parades and speeches but by recognizing that their labor thrives in a system that encourages investment, risk-taking, and growth.Â
Every time an investor buys shares in a company, they are providing capital that allows workers to be hired, plants to be built, and ideas to come alive.Â
The result is a virtuous cycle that rewards both the investor and the worker.
As we celebrate Labor Day, let us remember that America’s prosperity rests on this foundation.Â
The sweat of labor, combined with the freedom of enterprise, continues to build a brighter future.Â
The American worker and the capitalist investor are not at odds. They are partners in progress.Â
And together, they ensure that the promise of America remains alive for generations to come.
