Today marks the 249th Fourth of July in our nation’s history.

Every year, we pause to celebrate the bold gamble our Founding Fathers took in 1776.

They rejected kings, privilege, and oppression… and declared that every person has God-given rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

They didn’t know how it would turn out, but they stood up anyway. Because of their courage, millions live free today.

The words written in Philadelphia have inspired freedom movements from Eastern Europe to South America… even in places most Americans couldn’t find on a map.

But freedom comes with responsibility.

And just two weeks ago, the United States answered that call again.

U.S. forces struck key Iranian nuclear sites, sending a clear message to our enemies… and standing up for peace and stability across the globe.

We didn’t ask for this role. But history made it ours. If America doesn’t act… who will?

That’s why this holiday is about more than barbecues and fireworks.

It’s about remembering who we are… what we stand for… and the responsibility we carry for future generations and the free world.

Every July 4, I start my day by reading the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution.

If you have a few minutes today, I recommend you do the same.

You’ll finish with a more profound gratitude for this great country and for the people willing to defend it.

May God bless you… And may God continue to bless the United States of America.

Humbly,

P.S. Hillsdale College offers a free copy of the Declaration of Independence and Constitution. I keep a copy in my nightstand.
